Dental Cone Beam Computed Tomography

Dental Cone Beam Computed Tomography

Dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a special type of x-ray machine used in situations where regular dental or facial x-rays are not sufficient. This type of CT scanner uses a special type of technology to generate three-dimensional (3-D) images of dental structures, soft tissues, nerve paths and bone in the head and neck region in a single scan, removing the need for multiple x-rays and giving a clearer image to the doctor. These better 3-D images allow for more precise planning and implementation of dental treatment, most specifically for the placement of dental implants, better-performed root canal therapy, and safer wisdom tooth extractions. Cone beam CT provides detailed images of the bone and is essential for evaluating diseases of the jaw, teeth, bony structures of the face, nasal cavity and sinuses. Usually, to have a 3-D image like this taken you would have to travel to see a specialist, but we offer these scans in the convenience of our office.
